Book Travelling Thursdays: New Beginnings – a book I’d like to read for the first time again

Good Morning lovelies! I am doing the Book Travelling Thursdays weekly topics as well! Today’s topic is: New Beginnings – Choose a book you would like to read for the first time again.

For me, it’s definitely Shadow and Bone!

Shadow and Bone (The Grish Trilogy 01)  – Goodreads : Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.

Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.

Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha . . . and the secrets of her heart.

I first read Shadow and Bone in August 2015 and it took me about 3 days. I absolutely adore this book, and every other in the Grisha universe. An old friend recommended it to me when I told her I wanted to read something with Russian mythology. Although this series doesn’t exactly have that many creatures/aspects of Russian mythology, it is based on the geography of that area. And I thought, why not?

My only regret regarding this book – and the reason why I wish I could read it for the first time again – is that I read it in Portuguese. If possible, I’d rather read books in English (when that is their original language, that is) but I was positively ecstatic about this series, so when I saw it at the bookstore I had to buy it.

I’ll probably still reread it, even Portuguese. I just love this book so much. However, if I manage to find a cheap English copy (less than ten euros is what I consider a cheap book) I’ll probably buy it.

The Portuguese cover, the UK edition and the US edition: I love the UK edition but the US is my favorite and the one I wish I owned.

Fun Fact:

a-gathering-dark Shadow and Bone was republished with this title in June 2013, but originally it was called The Gathering Dark. I’m not sure of why it was republished under a different name but perhaps it wasn’t very successful. Personally, I prefer the new cover and the new title, though I think the original was great.
